ASTM International Launches Year of the Professor Campaign
ASTM 国际标准组织，世界上最大的自愿性标准制订机构之一。2009年，ASTM国际标准组织将推出“年度教授”评选活动。这项多层面的学术拓展活动的主要目的是提升全球范围内大专院校中标准知识教育的价值。
“年度教授”评选活动是在2007年ASTM国际标准组织“年度大学生”评选活动基础上发展而来的。该“大学生”项目取得了巨大成功的，由此，ASTM国际标准组织全球学生会员的数量提高了40%，同时，使用ASTM标准的大专院校数量也达到了1000多所。目前，ASTM已拥有来自中国30多所大专院校的注册学生会员。
ASTM“年度教授”评选活动的重要事项：
· ASTM国际标准组织的“年度教授”奖，旨在奖励那些在课程设置及课堂教学中融入标准相关内容并具有代表性的高等教育工作者；
· ASTM会员和职员到大学校园考察并举办培训活动；
· 开辟“网上ASTM校园”，专门为教授和学生提供在线教育资源；
· 提供经济适用的ASTM学术类标准产品，使教授们能够将ASTM标准整合到他们的课件当中；
· 继续提供机会发展ASTM国际标准组织学生会员。

为大学校园带来最新信息

ASTM International, one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world, will launch the “Year of the Professor” campaign in 2009. This multi-faceted academic outreach initiative will be aimed at promoting the value of standards education at colleges and universities worldwide.
The Year of the Professor campaign expands upon ASTM International’s highly successful “Year of the Student” initiative in 2007. That program brought a 40 percent increase in ASTM student membership and saw the number of colleges and universities that access ASTM standards increase to more than 1,000. Currently, individuals from 75 different countries hold student membership in ASTM International.
Highlighting the ASTM Year of the Professor initiative will be:
-The ASTM International Professor of the Year Award, rewarding a university-level educator for exemplary use of standards in their curriculum or classroom setting;
-College and university campus visits and training sessions by ASTM members and staff;
-Online educational resources at ASTM Campus, a focused area of the ASTM Web site for professors and students;
-Access to affordable ASTM academic-oriented products, enabling professors to integrate ASTM standards into their course materials; and
-Ongoing ASTM International student membership opportunities.
ASTM International President James A. Thomas commented, “Today’s college students are the world’s future technical experts and leaders in their fields. Enhancing their classroom learning with a real-world curriculum in standards will give then a learning foundation they can draw upon throughout their entire career. ASTM International is committed to supporting college and university educators in their efforts to build students' knowledge and awareness of the critical discipline of standardization.”
Dr. Vicki L. Brown, associate professor and chair of the civil engineering department at Widener University, added, “Engineering students, in particular, should learn about standards while still in school so that, as practicing professionals, they are prepared to appropriately apply those standards in their everyday technical evaluations and decision making. ASTM’s Year of the Professor program will provide engineering educators with welcome resources for teaching students about standardization.”
Rewarding the Contributions of Educators
A special emphasis of the Year of the Professor initiative will be on the role of educators in developing student knowledge and involvement in standardization. Underscoring this important aspect of the campaign will be the new ASTM International Professor of the Year Award. Candidates for the award will include professors and instructors at accredited universities worldwide who have demonstrated outstanding use of ASTM standards in their teaching. Bringing the Message to College Campuses
In 2009, ASTM International will also continue its direct outreach efforts at colleges and universities around the world. Over the past several years, ASTM members and staff have conducted campus visits to give students a living “case study” on the importance of standardization. Numerous visits and seminars are planned for 2009, building on last year’s programs at several schools, including Catholic University, Drexel University, Eastern University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Miami and Westminster College.

La ASTM International, una de las mayores organizaciones dedicadas al desarrollo de normas de consenso voluntario del mundo, lanzará la la campaña "El Año del Profesor" en el 2009. Esta iniciativa de alcance académico y de múltiples facetas tendrá el propósito de fomentar la importancia de la educación de las normas en universidades e institutos en todo el mundo.
La campaña del Año del Profesor es una continuación de la exitosa iniciativa El Año del Estudiante de la ASTM International de 2007. El programa logró incrementar la inscripción de estudiantes a la ASTM en un 40% y fue testigo del aumento de la cantidad de institutos y universidades que acceden a las normas de ASTM a más de 1000. En la actualidad, 75 países cuentan con alumnos inscritos en la ASTM International.
Con el fin de realzar la iniciativa de la ASTM de El Año del Profesor, se ofrecerá lo siguiente:
- El Premio Profesor del Año de la ASTM International, que premiará a un profesor universitario por el uso ejemplar de normas en su plan de estudios o en el aula;
- Visitas a diferentes campus universitarios y sesiones de capacitación dictadas por miembros y personal de la ASTM;
- Recursos pedagógicos en línea en el Campus de la ASTM, que consiste en un área recientemente diseñada en la página electrónica de la ASTM, dirigida a estudiantes y profesores;
- Acceso a productos económicamente accesibles con orientación académica de la ASTM, que les permitirá a los profesores integrar las normas ASTM a los materiales de sus cursos, y

El Presidente de la ASTM International, James A.
